Hi, I’m the pretentious asshole responsible for this blog.
Short version: I grew up just outside Cleveland, Ohio and lived there my entire life from 1992 t0 2011 when I moved to Athens, OH to attend Ohio University and study journalism. I am now on the cusp of graduation and simultaneously joyous and shitting-in-my-pants nervous.
Fact is, I’m a writer, through-and-through. While my main identifying characteristic is self-loathing (I know. How writer-ly of me), on the plus side (not that I believe in one, of course) it makes me highly-motivated: to prove to myself that there’s more to me than being really great at Call of Duty: Zombies and to prove to the world I have the skills and experience to back up my words.
As just another depression-prone writer looking for his piece of the audience pie, I want to cultivate an audience that loves storytelling as much as I do, especially speculative fiction such as fantasy and science fiction. I wish to surround myself with people who are socially and consciously-minded about the power of art and how communication can change the world.
I enjoy entertainment and pop culture journalism and publishing my fiction, short and serialized. I have written novels previously and am currently working on my passion project – a fantasy epic titled Tears from Elmaya.
Outside of writing, I’m an amateur rap artist and avid film buff. My favorite hobby is wondering if the voices will go away. My second favorite is worrying that they will.
My role models are comedian George Carlin, filmmaker/entertainer Kevin Smith, novelists J.K. Rowling, Eoin Colfer, George R.R. Martin, Stephen King, H.P. Lovecraft, journalists Neil Strauss, Michael Ausiello, Jeff Jensen, Darren Franich, Devin Faraci, film critics Roger Ebert, Owen Gleiberman, Peter Travers, linguist & novelist J.R.R. Tolkien, TV writers/showrunners Damon Lindelof, Vince Gilligan, David Simon, Nic Pizzolatto, film/TV directors David Fincher, Guillermo del Toro, Quentin Tarantino, Ridley Scott, Joss Whedon, rappers Tupac Shakur and Eminem
